The Performance score measures a planet's functional role in the chart — its lordship position, associations with other planets, and yogakaraka status relative to the ascendant. Maximum score: 100 marks out of the total Planet Capacity.

Overview
Performance is one of three components in Planet Capacity. While Light measures directional purity and Resource evaluates dignity/affliction, Performance assesses a planet's lordship quality and association strength based on the ascendant chart.

Three-Column Structure
Each planet's Performance is evaluated across three columns, each with its own weight. The same sub-score rules apply to each column (except Retrograde, which is Powerful Planet only), but the planet being evaluated differs.

Planet & Star Lord columns have 5 sub-scores (Comfort, Functional B/M, Yoga Karaka, Lord Association, Planet Association). Powerful Planet column has 4 sub-scores (same minus Retrograde replaces the lordship sub-scores structure).
Each column is further split into a Position Score portion and a Lordship Score portion:

Position Score
The Position Score is scored from RVA Master tables specific to each ascendant. Each planet receives a position score (0–100) based on its functional placement quality for the given lagna. Full tables for all 12 ascendants are available on the Position Score Tables page.
Position Score contributes to the "Position Marks" portion of each column — Planet column: 7.2 marks (12% of 60), Star Lord: 18 marks (30% of 60), Powerful: 10.8 marks (18% of 60).
Moon & Mercury Special Rules
Moon and Mercury have dynamic benefic/malefic status that changes per chart:

The benefic/malefic status of Moon and Mercury determines which row is used in the RVA Master position tables. A benefic Moon/Mercury uses the benefic row; a malefic Moon/Mercury uses the malefic row — the position scores can differ significantly.
Position Score

Star Lord Comfort measures how comfortable a planet is in its nakshatra lord's domain. It combines Tri-Guna compatibility, 5-Fold friendship, Enemy Star Pairs, and a Yoga Karaka Boost. Full details are available on the Star Lord Comfort page.
Comfort Weight: 10% of the lordship sub-score across all columns.

Functional Benefic / Malefic
Unlike natural benefic/malefic status (which is fixed), Functional Benefic/Malefic is determined by the ascendant. A planet that is a functional benefic for the ascendant receives a score of 100; otherwise it scores 60 (not zero — a malefic is not worthless, just less favourable).

Rahu is always in Saturn's group and Ketu is always in Jupiter's group. All 9 planets are classified as either FB or FM for every ascendant — no planet is left unclassified.

Yoga Karaka status identifies planets with special combined lordship that makes them exceptionally auspicious. There are two tiers of Yoga Karaka recognition:

Libra Full Moon Exception
For Libra ascendant, Moon can potentially qualify as a Yoga Karaka because it lords the 10th house (Cancer = Kendra). However, an additional brightness check applies:
Libra ascendant Moon YK rule:
Moon must be bright (distance from Sun > 90°) to qualify.
If Moon is dark (distance ≤ 90°), it does NOT get Yoga Karaka status.
Yoga Karaka contributes 20% of the lordship sub-score across all columns.

Lord Association evaluates how good the houses are that a planet lords, taking into account house quality, vacancy, Bhadhaka penalties, and connections to other lords. This is one of the most nuanced sub-scores in the Performance system.

Control (Vacant vs Occupied)
A planet's effective control over its house depends on whether the house is vacant or occupied:

Think of the house lord as a property owner. If the house is empty, the lord has full authority. If a tenant (another planet) occupies the house, the lord retains only 25% control — like collecting rent but not living there.

The Bhadhaka house is an obstructive house that varies by ascendant type. If a planet lords the Bhadhaka house, it receives a -15 penalty on its lord association score.

Connection Modifiers
When the planet has connections (conjunction or aspect) with other lords, the quality of those connected lords modifies the score. Connection strength varies by type:

Suppose Jupiter is conjunct Mars (1st & 8th lord). Mars as 1st lord (Trikona + Kendra) gives a bonus. Mars as 8th lord (Dustana) would give a penalty, but the "Dustana lord + 1st lord" special rule means no penalty applies for the 8th lordship connection to the 1st lord.
Final Lord Association Score: approximately 70–75 (after connection bonuses).

Weight: 20% of the lordship sub-score (Planet & Star Lord columns)
Planet Association
