Yogas (Yogamulu)

Based on planetary conjunctions, own-sign placement (Swakshetra), house position, and exaltation (Uchcha), there are many types of planetary Yogas. However, in every horoscope we examine, these planetary Yogas do not always appear exactly as we have learned them. Let us try to understand how to correctly interpret them based on Nakshatras, and when they will actually function.

Many types of Yogas have been documented in classical texts like Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra. However, since we cannot fully apply Nakshatra analysis to all of them, I am attempting to explain the most important Yogas. You may apply the rest based on your own knowledge.

Every person desires an elevated life. Astrologers examine many Yogas to determine whether an elevated life is destined. An elevated life primarily depends on the four Kendras -- health, career, home, and marriage. After that come luck, progeny, and so on. If the native lives with all kinds of comforts and is also useful to others, that is truly special.

There are traditions of examining planets from the Lagna, from the Moon, from the Sun, from the Dasha lord, and many other perspectives. However, we always examine and determine results only from the Lagna.

Yoga (Yogam)

When a planet is placed in a particular house or conjoins another planet, it is called a Yoga. Whether it is auspicious or not depends on the Nakshatra positions involved.

When a planet's Nakshatra lord forms a connection with the special Yoga Karaka (significator) for that Lagna, they give auspicious results beyond expectations.

You may get tired of me repeatedly saying to examine the Nakshatra lord of the planet every time. Even if you get tired, I will keep repeating it, because that is what produces results. One must examine the Nakshatra lord's own-sign placement, exaltation, Nakshatra strength (Dibbalam), and connection with Yoga Karaka planets.

Rajayogas

For all twelve Lagnas, the Kendra and Kona lords are distributed equally -- among them, both benefics (Shubha) and malefics (Papa) are equally present.

The conjunction of Kendra and Kona lords is called Rajayoga. Kendras give a person the capacity for hard work, while Konas indicate past-life merit (Purva Karma) and luck.

The success we achieve -- many times more than our effort -- comes due to luck.

However, when these planets' Nakshatra lords are conjoined with the Kendra-Kona lords in a Yoga Karaka configuration, the native achieves remarkable progress during that Dasha (planetary period).

For example, for Leo (Simha) Lagna, Jupiter (Guru) as the 5th lord is the special Yoga Karaka, and when he conjoins Sun (Ravi), the Kona lord, in the 10th house, it is remarkable. Moreover, if both of them are in Moon's Nakshatra and the Moon is also placed there, this Yoga gives even greater results.

Sun being in the 10th house, the Lagna lord being in the 10th (Dashama Sthiti), and its Nakshatra lord also being in the 10th -- all this grants special strength (Dibbalam). The Yoga Karaka also conjoining exalted Moon adds further strength to the Sun. Therefore, the native has the potential to reach great heights in any profession or business -- all that is needed is a favorable Dasha period.

Viparita Rajayogas

The 6th, 8th, and 12th houses from the Lagna are affectionately called Dusthanas (malefic houses) or Trikas. But these are actually the houses that fulfill our desires.

Sometimes, planets placed in these Dusthanas produce adverse results. The 6th house is the house of disease, the 8th house is the house of danger, and the 12th house is the house of expenditure. If all of these are afflicted, one must live in fear at every step, lacking health and wealth.

When the lords of these houses attain own-sign placement or are placed in another Dusthana lord's house, they cause extraordinary (Viparita) progress.

Let me explain how this works with a small example. Something worth 10 rupees can go up to 10,000 -- whether it is wealth, health, or authority. Then it may drop back to 2,000, meaning a setback may occur. Then it rises again to 50,000. The meaning of this is that these positions create awareness about danger, give the person a small sting as a lesson, and teach them how to grow without being weighed down by major dangers. However, since the native only understands this through experience (burning), these do not lead to smooth, easy prosperity as one might imagine.

Since we follow Nakshatra astrology, let me explain with a small example. For Scorpio (Vrishchika) Lagna, Mars (Kuja), the Lagna lord, is in the 8th house in his own Nakshatra Mrigashira.

Normally, the Lagna lord should not be in the 8th house. However, since Mars is also the 6th lord, being in the 8th house in his own Nakshatra forms a Viparita Yoga. Here, when a planet is in its own Nakshatra, and the 8th lord Mercury (Budha) is in Aries (Mesha) with its Nakshatra lord being Venus (Shukra), and Venus is also placed there, an even more remarkable Viparita Yoga forms.

Here, three Viparita Yogas have formed: Venus, the 7th lord (disease lord context), is in its own Nakshatra in the 6th house; the Lagna lord is in the 8th; Mercury, the 8th lord, is in the 6th with its Nakshatra lord also placed there.

If, for this same Scorpio Lagna, Jupiter (Guru) happens to be in the 2nd house aspecting the 6th and 8th houses, even more auspicious results will occur.

Pancha Mahapurusha Yogas

Pancha Mahapurusha Yogas are formed only by the five Tara (non-luminary) planets: Mars (Kuja), Mercury (Budha), Jupiter (Guru), Venus (Shukra), and Saturn (Shani). They form when a planet is in its own sign or exaltation sign in a Kendra from the Lagna.

We can examine this Yoga by considering the planet's Nakshatra lord and predict during which Dasha period the results will manifest.

Ruchika Mahapurusha Yoga: This Yoga forms based on Mars. It works regardless of whether Mars is a benefic or malefic for that Lagna. It bestows courage and physical strength.

For Aries (Mesha) Lagna in the 1st house, for Taurus (Vrishabha) Lagna in the 7th house, for Cancer (Karkataka) Lagna in the 7th and 10th houses, for Leo (Simha) Lagna in the 4th house, and for Aquarius (Kumbha) Lagna in the 10th house -- when Mars is placed thus, it is called Ruchika Mahapurusha Yoga. Mars gains Dig Bala (directional strength) in the 10th house.

Let us understand with a small example in Nakshatra astrology. For Leo Lagna, Venus Dasha is running. Venus is in Chitra Nakshatra in the 3rd house. The Nakshatra lord Mars is conjoined with Jupiter in the 4th house.

Even though Venus is a malefic for Leo Lagna, the Nakshatra lord Mars, conjoined with his friend Jupiter, is in his own sign forming Ruchika Mahapurusha Yoga. Since Venus's Nakshatra lord has gained strength (Dibbalam), Venus Dasha will definitely bring remarkable gains in wealth, property, education, and business in many ways to the native.

However, an important note: whatever Nakshatra Mars and Jupiter are placed in, Rahu and Ketu must definitely not be in those same Nakshatras. Also, both Mars and Jupiter must not be retrograde. Only then will this Yoga function fully -- this is my observation.

Bhadra Mahapurusha Yoga: This forms based on Mercury (Budha). Mercury must be in a Kendra from the Lagna in exaltation or own sign. It bestows intelligence and eloquence.

For Pisces (Meena) Lagna, even though Mercury is the 7th lord (Maraka lord), if placed in the 7th house, it becomes Bhadra Mahapurusha Yoga. However, when and how we examine this is very important.

For example, for this same Pisces Lagna, Mercury Dasha is running. Both Mercury and Moon (Chandra) are in Hasta Nakshatra in the 7th house. Mercury's Nakshatra lord is the Yoga Karaka.

Since the 4th and 7th lord conjoins, Moon gains Dig Bala. Due to the Yoga Karaka connection and conjunction with an exalted planet, the 7th house results will definitely be remarkable. As a bonus, a good progeny Yoga (Satsantana Yoga) has also formed.

Think once about how Bhadra Mahapurusha Yoga forms for other Lagnas in a similar manner.

Hamsa Mahapurusha Yoga: Jupiter (Guru) forms Hamsa Mahapurusha Yoga when placed in own sign or exaltation sign in Kendras from the Lagna. It bestows wisdom and spirituality.

For Aries Lagna in the 4th house, for Libra (Tula) and Gemini (Mithuna) Lagnas in the 10th house, and for Sagittarius (Dhanus) Lagna in the 1st and 4th houses -- Jupiter forms Hamsa Mahapurusha Yoga.

If Jupiter is also the Yoga Karaka for those Lagnas, it is even more favorable -- there is no doubt about it. If Jupiter is placed in the Nakshatra of that Lagna's Yoga Karaka while forming this Yoga, it works remarkably well for other Lagnas too.

For Gemini Lagna, Jupiter Dasha is running. Jupiter is in Pisces (Meena) forming Hamsa Mahapurusha Yoga. The Nakshatra lord Mercury (Budha) gains strength (Dibbalam) in the Lagna and is conjoined with the Yoga Karaka Venus (Shukra). Because of this, Jupiter Dasha will yield tremendous results.

Malavya Mahapurusha Yoga: This forms due to Venus (Shukra). It bestows beauty, grandeur, and artistic talent.

We can predict accurate results only when we attribute the known planetary strengths to the planet's Nakshatra lord.

Venus gains Dig Bala in the 4th house. Keeping in mind factors like Uttama Drekkana and Vargottama, let us consider an example.

For Gemini Lagna, Venus is exalted in Revati Nakshatra in the 10th house. Venus Dasha is running. Venus has attained Uttama Drekkana, Vargottama, and since the Nakshatra belongs to the 4th lord, Venus has also gained Dig Bala. Venus and Mercury are naturally close to each other, but Mercury is in Bharani Nakshatra in Aries (Mesha). Now tell me -- why does this Malavya Yoga not work brilliantly?

When a planet is in its own Nakshatra, even with Parivartana (exchange), if the sign lord is not well-placed, or in some cases if planets are retrograde or conjoined with Rahu-Ketu, proper results do not come.

Shasha Mahapurusha Yoga: When Saturn (Shani) is in own sign or exaltation sign in Kendras from the Lagna, this Yoga forms. It bestows discipline and leadership qualities.

For Libra (Tula) Lagna, when Saturn and Venus conjoin in the Lagna, the conjunction of Kendra-Kona lords becomes a Rajayoga. Since both planets are here, both Malavya Mahapurusha Yoga and Shasha Mahapurusha Yoga form. If any planet anywhere is in Saturn's or Venus's Nakshatra, that Dasha will definitely be remarkable.

Examine whether Saturn is in own sign, whether it has gained Dig Bala, and whether its Nakshatra lord is also well-placed -- by considering such factors, you can predict even more impressive results. Imagine how Shasha Mahapurusha Yoga forms in this manner. For other Lagnas too, if Yoga forms due to Saturn, it is very beneficial when Saturn also has a connection with that Lagna's Yoga Karaka.

All these are Purusha (male) Yogas -- one may wonder whether there are no such Yogas for women. The same Yoga can be examined in both male and female horoscopes. The intent with which the sage (Maharshi) wrote this has not yet occurred to me!

Dhana Yoga (Wealth Yoga)

In the horoscope, the 2nd house (Dvitiya) is the house of wealth. A person naturally earns money through their work. In some cases, ancestral property, sudden financial gains, and other factors may also bring wealth -- or wealth may not come at all, or may come less than expected.

The 5th house (Panchama) and the 9th house (Bhagya) are described as fortune houses in the horoscope. Based on the meritorious karma (Shubha Karma) of past lives and the favorability of the planets, the native may receive manifold returns on their efforts in this life.

Whether in the 2nd house or any other house, when connections form with the 5th and 9th house lords and the 11th house (Labha, gains), the native becomes wealthy. If Dusthana connections also form with these, some wealth gets spent. If only Dusthana connections exist, no amount of money will remain.

Let us take a Lagna as an example. For Aquarius (Kumbha) Lagna, Mars Dasha is running. Mars's Nakshatra lord turns out to be Venus. Venus is conjoined with Mercury and Jupiter in the 11th house.

The Dasha lord's Nakshatra lord conjoining Jupiter, the 2nd and 11th lord; the Yoga Karakas who are the 5th and 9th lords conjoining Jupiter; and all benefic planets being in the 11th house -- all this definitely results in remarkable wealth acquisition. Now, for this native, any planet placed in Venus, Mercury, or Jupiter's Nakshatras will definitely bring wealth during those Dasha periods, since these planets are in the 11th house.

Gajakesari Yoga

Gaja means elephant and Kesari means lion -- these two are completely opposite animals. If a lion enters an elephant's dream, the elephant dies. If an elephant enters a lion's dream, the lion dies -- that is how opposite they are. If such two animals come together on common ground and work for a common purpose, imagine how wonderful that would be. The result of this Yoga is equally wonderful.

When Jupiter (Guru) and Moon (Chandra) conjoin in Kendra houses, and if it is the own sign or exaltation sign for either Jupiter or Moon, this Yoga applies.

For example, for Leo (Simha) Lagna, Sun (Ravi) is in Capricorn (Makara) in Shravana Nakshatra. Jupiter and Moon are both conjoined in the 10th house in Rohini Nakshatra.

Now, if Sun Dasha is running, the Nakshatra lord is exalted in the 10th house conjoining the Yoga Karaka, attaining Uttama Drekkana, Vargottama, Pushkara Navamsha, and Dig Bala -- this becomes remarkable.

Jupiter represents intellect and wisdom; Moon represents sensitivity, comfort, mental happiness, and contentment. Wealth, food, and all things in life will be available in abundance.

When two benefic planets conjoin or are in mutual Kendras, whatever they are capable of achieving, they set as a goal and accomplish it.

Budhaditya Yoga

When Sun (Ravi) and Mercury (Budha) conjoin in Kendras and those are own signs or exaltation signs, Budhaditya Yoga forms. This bestows authority, intelligence, good oratory skills, effective functioning, and success.

For Cancer (Karkataka) Lagna, when Sun and Mercury conjoin in the 10th house, Budhaditya Yoga forms. If Jupiter (Guru) is on the Lagna in Ashlesha Nakshatra, and the Nakshatra lord Mercury is conjoined with Sun forming Budhaditya Yoga, that Jupiter Dasha will deliver remarkably auspicious results.

Chandra Mangala Yoga

Whenever Moon (Chandra) conjoins any planet, it forms a Yoga, and each Yoga has its own results. Among them, Chandra Mangala Yoga is particularly distinguished. Those who have this Yoga are powerful enough to rewrite their own destiny.

When Moon and Mars (Kuja) conjoin in own signs or exaltation signs in Kendras from the Lagna, this Yoga forms. If this Yoga is favorable for that Lagna, it gives auspicious results.

For example, for Cancer (Karkataka) Lagna, the conjunction of Mars and Moon in the 10th house gives auspicious results. If any planet is in Moon's or Mars's Nakshatra, those Dasha periods yield remarkable results.

When Sun and Mars conjoin, it is Ravi Mangala Yoga. When Jupiter and Mars conjoin, it is Guru Mangala Yoga. All of these give auspicious results.

When Mars and Venus (Shukra) conjoin, it forms a kind of Attraction Yoga (Aakarsha Yoga).

Mars and Mercury (Budha) should not conjoin. This causes the person to be unable to execute any task due to too many diverse thoughts. In some cases, they function as analysts.

Saraswati Yoga

When Jupiter (Guru), Mercury (Budha), and Venus (Shukra) are in Kendras, Konas, or the 2nd house from the Lagna, it becomes Saraswati Yoga. This bestows education, wisdom, and Sattvic (pure) qualities.

Jupiter is Brihaspati, the Deva Guru (teacher of the gods), and Venus is the Daitya Guru (teacher of the demons). Since both are teachers (Gurus), their conjunction also bestows wisdom.

The conjunction of Jupiter and Mercury creates trust and credibility in others toward us.

Chatra Yoga

The conjunction of the Lagna lord and the 6th lord is called Chatra Yoga. Such individuals possess a fighting and striving spirit. If you pick a fight with them, you will surely lose.

Shankha Yoga: needs verification

The relationship between Saturn (Shani) and Mars (Kuja) is very important for the formation of Shankha Yoga (Sankh Yoga). Generally, there are some important factors for this Yoga to form:

1. Same Sign (Samyukta Rashi): Saturn and Mars placed in the same sign.

2. Aspect: When Saturn and Mars aspect each other (mutually aspect), this Yoga forms.

3. Kendra Relationship: When Saturn and Mars are mutually placed in the 4th, 7th, or 10th houses in the horoscope.

Important conditions for Shankha Yoga formation:

1. Sign Placement: When Saturn and Mars are in the same sign or in mutually 7th signs from each other.

2. Planetary Aspect (Graha Drishti): When Saturn aspects Mars or Mars aspects Saturn.

3. Kendra Relationship: When Saturn and Mars are in the 4th, 7th, or 10th house from each other.

Examples

1. Mutual Sign: When Saturn and Mars are in the same sign (for example, both Saturn and Mars in Aries / Mesha Rashi).

2. Aspect Relationship: When Saturn is in the 3rd house and Mars is in the 7th house, this Yoga can form.

3. Kendra Relationship: When Saturn is in the Lagna and Mars is in the 4th house.

When this Yoga forms, the native possesses strong determination, firmness, and high self-confidence. However, this Yoga can sometimes also bring conflicts and obstacles.

Shankha Yoga (Sankh Yoga) forms due to the conjunction of Saturn and Mars. It is one of the important Yogas in astrology, forming from the equal-power conjunction of Saturn and Mars. This Yoga produces some important effects in a person's life:

1. Strong Determination: Individuals with this Yoga possess strong determination and courage. They work vigorously to achieve their goals.

2. Conflicts: Due to the equal power of Saturn and Mars, sometimes conflicts and difficulties may arise in the person's life. However, they can overcome these problems.

3. Authority: This Yoga may grant the person authority at a sovereign level. They can influence the people around them.

4. Strength and Firmness: Due to the combination of Saturn's patience and Mars's energy, individuals with this Yoga are powerful and firm.

5. Struggle and Victory: Individuals with this Yoga become experts in fighting and achieve victory in many situations.

The effect of this Yoga depends on the position of other planets, signs, and many other factors in the horoscope.

Shankha Yoga (Shankh Yoga) is considered an important Yoga in astrology. If this Yoga exists in the horoscope, it bestows fortune, education, wealth, and prosperity upon the person.

Conditions for Shankha Yoga Formation

Certain special conditions must exist in the horoscope for Shankha Yoga to form:

1. Lagna Lord and 5th Lord (Panchamadhipati): The Ascendant lord and the 5th house lord must be in their own signs or in each other's signs (mutual exchange).

2. Kendra and Trikona Relationship: The Lagna lord and 5th house lord must be placed in the 1st, 4th, 7th, or 10th houses.

3. 11th Lord and 9th Lord: The 11th house lord (Labhadhipati) and the 9th house lord (Bhagyadhipati) must also be in their own signs or have mutual connections.

Results of Shankha Yoga

Individuals with this Yoga will experience fortune in various areas of life:

1. Success in Education: They achieve extraordinary results in the field of education.

2. Financial Growth: Wealth, money, and financial stability will be present.

3. Distinguished Personality: Good personality, righteous company, and the quality of helping others will be present.

4. All-round Growth: There will be progress in all aspects of life.

5. Well-being: Physical and mental health will be excellent.

Shankha Yoga in different signs: The manner in which Shankha Yoga forms and its results vary slightly in each sign. Therefore, it is very important to analyze the horoscope completely.

Some important points:

• Individuals with Shankha Yoga gain good name and reputation in life.
• This Yoga brings self-confidence, happiness, and joy.
• Those with Shankha Yoga maintain a good standing both socially and within the family.

Overall, if Shankha Yoga exists in a horoscope, it can be said to be a Yoga that produces good results.

Vamshoddhaaraka Yoga

When the Lagna lord is in the 10th house, it is called Vamshoddhaaraka Yoga (Dynasty-Uplifting Yoga). Whether on the mother's side or the elder sister's side, among everyone, this person has the opportunity to reach a position of greatness that no one else could achieve.

Parivartana Yogas (Exchange Yogas)

Among Parivartana (exchange) Yogas, Nakshatra Parivartana is particularly special. When Kendra and Kona lords undergo exchange, they give extraordinary results.

For example, for Leo (Simha) Lagna, Mars and Venus undergo sign exchange (Rashi Parivartana) and attain their own Nakshatra positions -- this is remarkable.

For Gemini (Mithuna) Lagna, Venus and Mercury exchange in the 10th and 11th houses -- this is special. In such cases, the Yoga fully applies only when the sign lords are well-placed.

For Gemini Lagna, there is a possibility of sign and Nakshatra exchange between Saturn and Mars, the 6th and 8th lords. This also produces special results. This is a Viparita Yoga.

When the 8th and 9th lords undergo the same exchange (Parivartana), they give inauspicious results.

Dwigraha Yogas (Two-Planet Yogas)

The conjunction of two planets is called Dwigraha Yoga. When planets conjoin, one must assess who is stronger among them, whether their relationship is good, whether they are in conflict, whether they are in good Nakshatras, whether all are in the same Nakshatra, and so on -- all these factors must be weighed before predicting results.

Trigraha Yogas (Three-Planet Yogas)

The conjunction of three planets is called Trigraha Yoga. Yogas are quite interesting. When Sun and Saturn conjoin, it is a Dosha (defect). However, when Mercury also joins them, the defect is not as severe.

The conjunction of Mars and Saturn breeds a tendency for war and conflict. When Mercury joins them, due to Mercury's analytical thinking, they do not rush into unnecessary wars.

I have explained one example here. However, one must examine which planets the Nakshatra lord is conjoined with, where it is placed, which planets aspect it, which is the strongest planet in that sign, how favorable it is for the Lagna -- all such factors must be considered before predicting results.

Neechabhanga Rajayoga

This is an important Yoga in astrology. It forms when a planet is in debilitation (Neecha) and that debilitation gets cancelled (Bhanga). A person with Neechabhanga Rajayoga overcomes problems in life and attains prosperity and well-being.

Conditions for Neechabhanga Rajayoga Formation

1. The debilitated planet must be cancelled by an exalted planet placed in the same sign.

2. The lord of the sign where the debilitated planet is placed must be in a Kendra or Trikona position.

3. A benefic planet must be in the Nakshatra of the debilitated planet.

Examples

1. Venus (Shukra) in Virgo (Kanya) Rashi: Venus is in debilitation in Virgo. When Mercury (Budha) is also in Virgo, Venus's debilitation gets cancelled. This brings success in business and education.

2. Moon (Chandra) in Scorpio (Vrishchika) Rashi: Moon is in debilitation in Scorpio. When Mars (Kuja / Angaraka) is also in Scorpio, Moon's debilitation gets cancelled. This brings mental peace and family comforts.

3. Mercury (Budha) in Pisces (Meena) Rashi: Mercury is in debilitation in Pisces. When Jupiter (Guru) is also in Pisces, Mercury's debilitation gets cancelled. This brings success in the fields of education and business.

4. Sun (Surya) in Libra (Tula) Rashi: Sun is in debilitation in Libra. When Venus (Shukra) is also in Libra, Sun's debilitation gets cancelled. This enhances leadership qualities and authority.

Results (Phalitalu)

Individuals with Neechabhanga Rajayoga overcome any kind of hardship in their lives and attain victories and comforts. People with this Yoga generally earn prestige in society.

For Neechabhanga Rajayoga to be in its highest state, it is advisable to have the horoscope examined by a person with astrological expertise.

Yoga Cancellations & Rahu-Ketu Influence

Yogas may appear very pure and innocent on the surface. However, due to some planet, due to an aspect (Drishti), due to conjunction, due to Papaargala (malefic intervention), or due to Nakshatra connections, they keep getting damaged.

Let me explain with a small example. For Aries (Mesha) Lagna, if Jupiter is in the 4th house, it is considered Hamsa Mahapurusha Yoga. Now observe: Jupiter is in Pushyami (Nakshatra), and Rahu is in Anuradha. Since both of them share the same Nakshatra lord (Saturn), a defect has afflicted Jupiter.

Suppose Jupiter becomes retrograde a few days later -- in such a case too, the defect remains.

When various other malefic planets aspect that Jupiter, it does not give great results. Even if Jupiter is in its own Nakshatra Punarvasu in Cancer (Karkataka), if the sign lord Moon (Chandra) is debilitated, that Yoga will not bear fruit.

Conclusion (Muginpu)
